Sikkim Teacher Eligibility Test (STET) 2026

Department of Education, Government of Sikkim, has released the official Information Bulletin and revised syllabus for the Sikkim Teacher Eligibility Test (STET) 2026 for In-Service Regular Teachers. The examination is conducted for eligibility as Primary Teachers (Classes I to V) and Graduate/Elementary Teachers (Classes VI to VIII).

STET 2026: Eligibility Criteria


1. Primary Teacher – Classes I to V
  • Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/Central OBC/State OBC) and passed 2-year D.El.Ed.
  • OR Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and passed 4-year B.El.Ed.
  • OR Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and passed 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education) recognized by RCI.
2. Graduate Teacher – Classes VI to VIII
  • B.A./B.Sc. with 50% marks (45% for reserved categories) and passed 2-year D.El.Ed.
  • OR B.A./B.Sc. with 50% marks and passed 2-year B.Ed.
  • OR Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and passed 4-year B.El.Ed.
  • OR 4-year B.A./B.Sc.Ed. or B.A.Ed./B.Sc.Ed.

Note: Teacher education courses must be recognized by NCTE or RCI for Special Education. Candidates can appear in only one category: Primary or Graduate Level.

STET 2026 Exam Pattern


  • Question Type: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
  • Total Questions: 150 per paper
  • Total Marks: 150 per paper
  • Duration: 2.5 Hours per paper
  • Marking Scheme: 1 mark for each correct answer
  • Negative Marking: No negative marking
  • Medium: English for general subjects and respective vernacular script for Language-II

A. Paper I – Primary Stage (Classes I to V)

1. Child Development & Pedagogy – 30 Marks


  • Child development, growth and developmental milestones.
  • Cognitive, social and emotional development.
  • Speech and language acquisition.
  • Socialization, parenting styles and peer relationships.
  • Piaget's cognitive development and Kohlberg's moral development theories.
  • Inclusive education, learning disabilities and gifted learners.
  • RPWD Act 2016, RCI Act 1992, POCSO and child protection.
  • Learning theories of Pavlov, Thorndike, Skinner, Bandura, Vygotsky and Gagne.
  • Bloom's Taxonomy, assessment tools and teaching-learning approaches.

2. Language I – English – 30 Marks


  • Unseen prose, drama and poetry passages.
  • Reading skills including skimming, scanning and prediction.
  • Grammar, vocabulary and figures of speech.
  • Multilingualism and English language teaching.
  • Language Across Curriculum and Second Language Acquisition.
  • Whole language approach, storytelling and remediation strategies.

3. Language II – Regional Vernacular – 30 Marks


  • Unseen prose passages and reading comprehension.
  • Grammar, vocabulary and literary appreciation.
  • Teaching regional languages in diverse classrooms.
  • Emergent literacy and low-cost teaching-learning materials.
  • Local literature and continuous assessment.

4. Mathematics – 30 Marks


  • Whole numbers, fractions, decimals and integers.
  • BODMAS, HCF, LCM, ratio and proportion.
  • Percentage, profit and loss, GST and interest.
  • Geometry, symmetry, algebra and linear equations.
  • Perimeter, area and volume.
  • Mean, median, mode, pictographs and bar graphs.
  • Mathematics pedagogy, diagnostic testing and error analysis.

5. Environmental Studies – 30 Marks


  • Family, friends, community and local culture of Sikkim.
  • Organic farming, flora, fauna and wildlife sanctuaries.
  • Food, water, preservation and waterborne diseases.
  • Traditional clothing, shelter and earthquake-resistant architecture.
  • Maps, eco-tourism and heritage sites of Sikkim.
  • Field visits, surveys, interviews, ICT and assessment.
B. Paper II – Elementary Stage (Classes VI to VIII)


1. Child Development & Pedagogy – 30 Marks


  • Child development during middle childhood and adolescence.
  • Heredity and environment.
  • Piaget, Kohlberg, Erikson and Gardner's theories.
  • Gender roles, stereotypes and school culture.
  • Inclusive education and learning disabilities.
  • Constructivism and learning theories.
  • Teaching methods, project-based learning and educational statistics.

2. Languages I & II – 30 Marks Each


  • Advanced prose and poetry comprehension.
  • Grammar, active/passive voice and reported speech.
  • Literary analysis, style, tone and figures of speech.
  • Communicative and task-based language teaching.
  • Remedial teaching and response analysis.

3. Mathematics & Science Option – 60 Marks


  • Mathematics: Real numbers, arithmetic, algebra, geometry, mensuration, statistics and probability.
  • Mathematics Pedagogy: Mathematical reasoning, proof, ethnomathematics and remedial teaching.
  • Physics: Motion, Newton's laws, gravitation, work, energy, electricity, magnetism, sound and optics.
  • Chemistry: Metals, non-metals, acids, bases, salts, atomic structure, carbon compounds and chemical reactions.
  • Biology: Nutrition, respiration, circulation, excretion, reproduction, cells, ecosystems, diseases and immunization.
  • Science Pedagogy: Scientific temper, laboratory activities, low-cost teaching aids and assessment.

4. Social Science Option – 60 Marks


  • Political Science: Democracy, government, Constitution, judiciary and electoral politics.
  • History: Ancient civilizations, Delhi Sultanate, Mughal Empire, British rule, Revolt of 1857 and national movement.
  • Geography: Earth, maps, atmosphere, hydrosphere, natural resources, agriculture, industries and human resources.
  • Social Science Pedagogy: Constructivist teaching, enquiry methods, digital resources, field trips and assessment.

How to Apply for STET 2026


  1. Visit the official STET portal at tet.sikkim.gov.in.
  2. Read the Information Bulletin and syllabus carefully.
  3. Keep the required photograph, signature, qualification certificate and valid photo ID ready.
  4. Fill in the online application form between 24 August 2026 and 12 September 2026 up to 4:00 PM.
  5. Enter your personal, educational and professional details carefully.
  6. Pay the examination fee of ₹500/- through the online payment gateway.
  7. Submit the application form and save the confirmation page for future reference.
  8. Download the admit card from 01 October 2026 onwards.
