Qualification: Higher Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 2-Year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known).
OR
Higher Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 45% marks and 2-Year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known), in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms & Procedure), Regulations, 2002.
OR
Higher Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 4-Year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed).
OR
Higher Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 2-Year Diploma in Education (Special Education).
OR

Higher Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 4-Year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.).

Exam Syllabus for MTET-2026
The Meghalaya Teacher Eligibility Test shall consist of a Written Examination as per the structure and content below:
i. All questions will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), each carrying one mark, with four alternatives, out of which only one option will be correct.
ii. There will be no negative marking.
iii. The Written Examination will consist of 2 Papers.
(a) Paper I (LP) will be for a person who intends to be a teacher for Classes I – V.(b) Paper II (UP) will be for a person who intends to be a teacher for Classes VI – VIII.(c) A person who intends to be a teacher for both Classes I to V and for Classes VI – VIII will have to appear in both papers (i.e. Paper I & Paper II).

Qualifying Marks: The pass percentage for MTET is 60% with a relaxation of 15 % for SC/ST/OBC/ OST/OSC of Meghalaya and PwD candidates. i.e., the qualifying mark is 90 out of 150 for General candidates and 68 marks out of 150 for SC/ST/OBC of Meghalaya and PwD candidates.
The duration of the Written Examination shall be 2 ½ (two and a half hours) for each paper and 30 minutes extra for Persons with Disability (PwDs).
