Special Assam TET 2026 (LP/UP): Teacher Eligibility Test

The Department of School Education (DSE), Government of Assam has announced the Special Assam Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026 for Lower Primary (LP) and Upper Primary (UP) levels for Bodo, Garo, Manipuri, and HMAR mediums. Eligible candidates can apply online from 07 January 2026 to 07 February 2026.

Special Assam TET 2026 – Key Information


(i) The Government of Assam, under Section 23 of the RTE Act 2009, will conduct the Special Assam Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026 for Lower Primary (LP) and Upper Primary (UP) levels.

(ii) The test is specifically for the Bodo, Garo, Manipuri, and Hmar mediums, following NCTE guidelines.

(iii) Online applications are invited from candidates who are permanent residents of Assam and intend to appear for Paper I (LP) or Paper II (UP).

(iv) This Special TET is being conducted due to a shortage of Language-1 teachers in Bodo, Garo, Manipuri, and Hmar medium elementary schools.

(v) Candidates who qualify the Special Assam TET 2026 will be eligible for future teacher recruitment at the elementary level, subject to fulfilling other academic and professional qualifications as per NCTE norms.

Eligibility Criteria for Special Assam TET 2026


1. Residence Requirement

The candidate must be a permanent resident of Assam.

2. Qualification Requirement

The candidate must have the minimum academic and professional qualifications as per NCTE norms.

Minimum Qualification for Lower Primary TET (Class I–V)

Candidate must have any one of the following:

Senior Secondary (50%) + 2-year D.El.Ed.

OR

Senior Secondary (50%) + 4-year B.El.Ed.

OR

Senior Secondary (50%) + 2-year Diploma in Special Education

OR

Graduation + 2-year D.El.Ed.

Minimum Qualification for Upper Primary TET (Class VI–VIII)

Candidate must have any one of the following:

Graduation + 2-year D.El.Ed.

OR

Graduation (50%) + B.Ed.

OR

Post Graduation (55%) + 3-year integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed.

OR

Senior Secondary (50%) + 4-year B.El.Ed.

OR

Senior Secondary (50%) + 4-year B.A.Ed./B.Sc.Ed.

OR

Graduation (50%) + 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education)

Important Note: The minimum percentage requirement in Graduation does not apply to candidates who were admitted to B.Ed./B.El.Ed. or equivalent courses before 29 July 2011.

Important Points


  1. The exam will be conducted for Paper-I (LP) and Paper-II (UP) as per the official syllabus.
